An overview of the community service and environmental development sector

Proceeding from the vision of Alexandria University, and in line with Egypt’s strategy for sustainable development (Egypt Vision 2030), the community service and environmental development sector at the Faculty of Pharmacy pays great attention in meeting the needs of the community inside and outside the university. Moreover, it contributes in solving contemporary health, social and economic problems, and raises as well the spirit of cooperation among students in community service to be more effective to their homeland.

The sector is also interested in establishing relations and cooperation protocols with external community institutions aiming for human resources development, as well as supporting the financial resources of the college through special units and active participation in community service while keeping ethical and professional values. All that prepares the climate for achieving leadership in sustainable development socially and environmentally. In addition to that, the community service and environmental development sector is committed to participating in crisis management and providing occupational safety and health within the college and in the surrounding community, as well as providing distinguished services to the graduate (in order to gain the satisfaction of market organizations).

Activities of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector

1. Community Service

  • Organizes the annual international scientific conference of the college.
  • Organizes scientific seminars and publishing awareness videos on contemporary health and societal problems (such as the Covid19 pandemic, drug addiction, and others…) with the intent to increase environmental, professional and scientific awareness.
  • Prepares workshops and training courses to raise the efficiency of students, faculty members and college employees.
  • Spreads health and community awareness inside and outside the university by organizing awareness campaigns in schools and clubs.
  • Participates in medical and community convoys and field visits organized by Alexandria University to the needy areas in the area surrounding the university, as well as in remote places within the framework of the presidential initiative "A decent life for Egyptian villages".
  • Organizes blood and plasma donation campaigns on regular basis in cooperation with the Blood Bank and the Ministry of Health.
  • Participates in the implementation of the Alexandria University agenda in the vaccination campaign against the emerging Covid-19 virus.
  • Establishes the idea of ​​cooperation and team spirit between the parties of the internal and external community of the university, by spreading the culture of national and environmental belonging, and by motivating students to participate in different community services.
  • Establishes various community activities (such as the good loan fund, graduation day, group breakfast in Ramadan and others).
  • Establishes charitable markets and student fairs to support students and employees.
  • Extends bridges of cooperation and communication with all societal parties, including:
    • Cooperates with between the Syndicate of Pharmacists in Alexandria in exchanging experiences and organizing continuing pharmacy education.
    • Establishes cooperation and partnership agreements between the Faculty of Pharmacy and various local and regional institutions.
    • Cooperates with community parties in training students.
    • Participates in providing job opportunities for students with societal parties (preparing the annual employment forum for the College of Pharmacy)
    • Cooperates with different scientific and community bodies and institutions to support applied research, which encourages joint research projects at the local, regional and international levels.
    • Ensures the presence of representatives of the societal parties in the faculty council and in the sub-committees.
    • Contacts the alumni of the faculty through the Alumni Follow-up Office.
  1. Environmental development
  • Participates in the implementation of the university's plan to reduce carbon emissions and calculate the university's environmental footprint.
  • Helps the university in getting advanced ranks in the local and international "green university" competitions.
  • Implements programs to provide occupational safety and health, disaster control and crisis management within the faculty, including:
    • Corona crisis management: by implementing and following up on precautionary measures against the spread of the new Covid-19 virus.
    • Putting indicative signs, cautionary actions and warnings.
    • Providing appropriate ways to transport harmful waste in all departments of the faculty.
    • Increasing the number of extinguishers in laboratories and their periodic maintenance by the Civil Defense Authority.
    • Making an introductory video on "How to use fire extinguishers and safe exit".
    • Providing first aid boxes with the necessary medicines for potential accidents in the different laboratories.
    • Achieving security and safety for individuals, as well as protecting and maintaining facilities.
    • Working on keeping a clean environment inside and outside the faculty, as well as maintaining and updating the college's infrastructure.
  1. Supervision of units of a special nature
  • Participates in increasing the faculty financial resources through the development of services provided by units of a special nature.
  • Reviews the organizational structure of the units and clarifies the job descriptions for individuals.
  • Provides all the supplies and maintenance needed to operate the units.
  • Creates brochures and Facebook pages to promote the activities and services provided by the units and publish them among all community parties.
