Thank you for visiting our website; over 80 years as leaders in pharmacy teaching and innovation, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Alexandria University is a comprehensive institution of higher education in Egypt. Our faculty is keen on working to achieve the primary goal of its mission to supply the community by highly qualified pharmacists capable of effectively exercising the profession of pharmacy and keeping pace with its constant evolutions. Faculty of pharmacy offers two well-structured five years pharmacy curricula namely the main stream program and the clinical pharmacy program. Both are fully accredited by National Authority for Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Education (NAQAAE). The main stream (general) program served thousands of students since its launching in 18/6/1955 and still inspiring many faculties of pharmacy in Egypt and the middle east with its highly recognized standards

Measurements and Assessments unit

Vision:

Achieving excellence in measurements and assessments tools and this will lead to increase competitiveness among national and international universities.

Mission :

Continuous follow up of the measurements and assessment methods in the faculty through increasing awareness, training, analysis of the exams, monitor feedback mechanisms and confirming the alignments of assessment methods with the intended learning outcomes of the courses.

Measurements and Assessments unit in the faculty of pharmacy aims to :

1 - Promote the culture of continuous development of measurement and evaluation systems.

2 - Activate and follow-up question banks In view of the goals and criteria set for the decisions of the programs in the faculty.

3 - Update and follow-up on the question banks In view of the objectives and standards set for the decisions of the programs in the faculty.

4- Following up on enhancing the electronic infrastructure necessary for the unit's work.

5 - Follow up on activating the ethical charter for student evaluation systems in the college.

6 - Following up on strengthening the ethical charter for the college student evaluation systems.

7 - Activating and following up the faculty measurement and evaluation standards guide.

8 - Application and follow-up of electronic examinations, electronic correction, analysis of test results, and application of feedback mechanisms to take corrective actions if needed.

9 - Encouraging research in the field of developing measurement and evaluation systems and encouraging the exchange of experiences in this field.

Biochemistry Department

Biochemistry is a science that combines traditional chemistry and biology. It is based on the study of all chemical reactions and processes inside the bodies of living organisms in the laboratory with a focus on what happens from chemical processes inside cells in part in order to know their components, functions and the way they behave with each other.

The department mainly teaches the following biochemistry and clinical biochemistry courses at the undergraduate level:

1- Cell biology

2- Biochemistry 1

3- Biochemistry 2

4- Clinical biochemistry

5- Pharmacogenomics

6- Nutrition science

The objectives of the department are to familiarize the student with the chemical and biological reactions that occur in and outside living tissues, in addition to giving him the ability to understand and interpret many natural and pathological phenomena in the human body.

These goals are achieved by developing the student’s knowledge outcome by:

  • Introducing the vital interactions of the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins within the human body through biochemistry courses 1 and 2
  • Giving some information indicating new developments in science in modern fields such as genetic engineering and molecular biology through cell biology course.
  • Diagnosing diseases by semantics of blood through clinical biochemistry course.
  • Exemplifying the effect of genetic diversity on drug response in patients by linking gene expression or single nucleotide polymorphism with drug efficacy or toxicity through the pharmacogenomics course.
  • Explaining the relationship between Food and different body functions, and studying the cause of some nutritional factors in some diseases and medical conditions through the course of nutrition course.

The department is also interested in conducting advanced research in the basic and clinical areas of biochemistry that serve the community, including, for example, evaluating the role of biochemistry in discovering the effect of drugs on some diseases, and the genetic polymorphism associated with some diseases.
